FROM THE VAULT
There are no plans to do any more runs of these. It is scarcity that makes things valuable.
Which is another way of saying: “When they’re gone? They’re Gone…”
(Scroll to the bottom of the page to see the available titles.)
CDs, to my way of seeing, provide a reasonable “tactile” experience of what serious artists are trying to preserve and pass on to you. Plus, they remain quite convenient. They travel well. They store well.
When you come in from your daily grind and plop down at your desk or in your favorite easy-chair your CD and LP collection is quite prone to say:
“Hey, I missed you! How was your day?” They’re polite like that.
Limited resources more or less dictate the availability of one’s work when one is self-employed.
I’m glad that I have not had to “work for the Man.” No one calling the shots on my work’s “marketability” or judging its “viability.” That relinquishing of control to those, who often never really “got” the music I was creating, was rarely advantageous to VoL anyway.
It was easy to walk away from the old superstructures.
Still?
It might have been nice to have been able to have the resources to make a slew of cool videos and have them played on MTV; or radio support that would have put us alongside bands we were being played with on the fledgling Adult Alternative Album radio format back in the mid-’90s. (Bands like REM, The Wallflowers, Cracker, and Counting Crows.)
Success, as they say, often breeds more Success.
I have been fortunate to not only play with some great musicians but make good records with some incredibly talented producers and engineers. You’ll hear that here in most of these selections.
The plus side of Indie Americana?”
Well, there are two major pluses:
1. I still get to make the songs and recordings I want to make, which as most of you know, is quite often.
2. And, I get to fellowship and partner with YOU…the best & finest grass-roots collective known to man!
Let’s keep this enterprise going…
