The 30th Anniversary of "To The Roof Of The Sky"
The Goal? We’d like to have this pivotal 15-song album remastered, and rendered in a double LP format.
A limited run of 300-350 copies.
The budget to accomplish this is via Pre-Orders. That’s where you come in! We want to meet our budget of 22K in 30-40 days.
SO: Here are the necessary things that need to happen:
1. Producer Tom Lewis and I have the Original Sequence Master Tapes.
These have been in storage, and will need to be “re-habbed” and restored.
It’s called “baking the tapes.” (Odd name for the process, but there you have it.)
This procedure gently clears any oxidations and residual mold that may have inserted itself in the many folds of the spool of tape. It’s the same procedure that was employed on Welcome To Struggleville by the team at Infrasonic in Nashville.
2. The whole 15-song sequence will then need to be remastered for vinyl. This is where all the wondrous sonic qualities of vinyl are brought forth, accentuated and preserved. This will be handled by Nashville great, engineer and producer Pete Lyman.
To my ears every album we’ve had remastered for vinyl from Killing Floor to Blister Soul to Welcome To Struggleville, have sounded more immediate, more full and “truer” to what the original tapes sounded like. Honestly? It has been like hearing each of those albums for the first time.
3. If we make our budget, this will have to be a limited run of 300-350 copies. Vinyl has always been “spendy.” This is due to our limited resources. Our lower order numbers means that we don’t get a discount or break from vinyl pressing plants. The 6 month bottleneck in pressing production means we should be able to get the LP to you between December 2026 and January 2027. (Stay tuned! It could be earlier but the pressing houses are usually “guarded” about such pronouncements.) This is an expensive endeavor, but we know with your help we can get it done!
4. We’re not using Kickstarter on the project this time. This is an attempt to simplify and streamline the pre-order process. (While we love Kickstarter, the platform has become unwieldy and bloated with AI prompts that make it less usable for our purposes.)
Going through the website means less confusing pre-order options and makes the focus more about the music. That’s the reason you’re here in the first place. A “win-win” for all. As far as “rewards” go, we’re keeping it pretty simple. Here are the options:
A. One or two copies of the double LP, signed if you want.
B. A copy of the double LP plus hand-written lyrics of any song on the album. See the titles to choose from and sequence HERE
C. A copy of the double LP plus a download of an acoustic mini concert video of 7-8 songs from the album along with the stories behind each song.
5. Expanded Version! There were two songs that were recorded during these sessions, but were not included on the original album. These will be included, length permitting, on this LP version of “To The Roof of The Sky.”
The sooner we meet the budget, of 22K, the sooner we can begin the process of “makin’ records!” So please don’t delay if you want to secure a copy of this anniversary edition for yourself or a friend. I’m really proud of what VoL did on this record, and I think you’ll enjoy the LP version!
